La Casa del Mero

La Casa del Mero is where Porlamar locals go when they want real, no-fuss seafood at honest prices. Established in 1985 by the Ramirez family, this casual beachside restaurant near Mercado Conejeros has earned a devoted following for its enormous portions and unforgettable flavors.

The signature dish — a whole fried mero (grouper) served with tostones, ensalada rallada, and aji dulce sauce — feeds two people easily and costs less than a fast food meal in most Western cities. The empanadas de cazón, made fresh every morning with hand-ground shark meat and masa, are considered the best on the island.
