Playa El Yaque
World-famous for windsurfing and kitesurfing, Playa El Yaque draws water sports enthusiasts from across the globe. The shallow, warm waters and consistent trade winds create perfect conditions year-round. Even if you don't kite, the beach has a vibrant social scene with bars, restaurants, and a festival atmosphere, especially at sunset when the kitesurfers put on a spectacular show.
Playa Caribe
If you're looking for a postcard-perfect Caribbean beach, Playa Caribe delivers. Located on the northern coast of the island, this stunning stretch of white sand is framed by dramatic rocky headlands and lush vegetation. The turquoise waters are excellent for swimming and snorkeling, and the beach is never overcrowded. Local vendors sell fresh coconut water and fried empanadas right on the sand.
Playa Pampatar
Pampatar's crescent bay is the closest quality beach to downtown Porlamar, making it a favorite for locals and visitors who want sand and sea without the drive. The bay is sheltered by the historic Castillo San Carlos Borromeo, which creates calm, shallow waters ideal for families with children. Colorful fishing boats dot the harbor, and the waterfront is lined with seafood restaurants.
Playa Guacuco
One of Margarita Island's longest beaches, Playa Guacuco stretches for nearly two kilometers along the eastern coast. The waves here are bigger than at sheltered bays, making it popular with body surfers and boogie boarders. Tall palm trees provide natural shade, and the beach has a laid-back local atmosphere. The chiringuito (beach shack) at the north end serves excellent fried fish and cold Polar beer.
Playa Parguito
Margarita Island's premier surf beach. Playa Parguito faces the open Caribbean and picks up consistent swells that create waves perfect for intermediate and advanced surfers. The beach has a youthful, energetic vibe with surf shops, juice bars, and regular competitions. Even if you don't surf, the dramatic scenery and people-watching make it worth the drive.
Playa El Agua
The most famous beach on Margarita Island and one of the most popular in all of Venezuela. Playa El Agua is a three-kilometer crescent of golden sand backed by palm trees and a lively boardwalk of restaurants, bars, and shops. The waves are moderate — perfect for swimming and boogie boarding. On weekends and holidays, the beach pulses with music, dancing, and the infectious energy of Venezuelan beach culture.
